Feeding the Sealions?
Just in case you are wondering what the icon stands for (the RSS icon, if you subscribe to my feed)? Well, you are surely. Why a “Windows Ball” flying into the mouth of a Sealion?
I asked myself; “What will my first really meaty johnarudkin’s blog entry be”. Well it’s an unusual one.
Sometimes, in you day to day work, there are sometimes those things you just have to do. You know what I mean? Things you cannot get away without doing. This is the lifeblood of any organisations, and it is especially important where you are dealing with people who might need feedback, encouragement, a sense of being part of whatever it is you do. Yes, this can be time consuming, but it is worth the effoirt. Informed and forewarned, others have the opportunity to play a part, see themselves as included, feel worth. Keeping people insulated friom such things is……..dismissive of their stake in the day to day activities around them.
Now I’m not one to suggest a little humour is not good, but when I heard the term “Feeding the Sealions”, I frankly had to ask. “What does it mean?”
Then, in a flash I got it (feeling naive). It appears it is the act of keeping the “oiks” happy. Doing just enough to keep them entertained.
Well, I for one now get it. I do not like it, and it smacks of superiority and distain. It is not something I subscribe to - and I doubt many in Education would see it in a positive light.
“Feeding the sealions is all very well - but it can leave a very nasty, and some would say ‘fishy’ smell on your hands”
